Hi from Portugal!
I just wanted to share something that I found really valuable this week, hoping it can help you.
If you’re like me, that time of the month can sometimes be so painful that you can’t do anything other than lay in bed and try to breathe. This time, I actually had some of the worst cramps I’ve ever had, and on top of that I got a migraine and some cold sweat. Let’s just say I didn’t have the best day and I tried some things that I thought could help.
After trying these three things, I went from lying in a fetal position in bed in cold sweat to actually being able to go to the shopping center and fix a few things?! What.
Okay. Let’s get to it. The things I did to help my period cramps:
Pain relieving meditation. I found this meditation on YouTube, and it was a voice guiding me to direct the thoughts different places in the body and to the breath. It was really good and made me super relaxed. Try it HERE.
Yoga for cramps. I did a 20 minute stretching yoga with Adriene on YouTube. Due to the migraine I found it hard even looking at the screen but she guided me through and it was soooo good and comfy. You can even do this in bed. Game changer. TRY IT HERE.
Epsom salt & lavender oil bath 🛁 . Here at grandmas place where I am right now, they have a bathtub. One of my absolute favorite things to do to relax is drawing a bath so that was just perfect. I bought some epsom salt (basically magnesium) which is said to aid sore muscles and help you relax. I also added some calming lavender essential oils. I went all in and put all the crystals I could find around the tub, and lit some candles. I turned off the light and had such a good time in the bath. Delishh. Even if you don’t have a bathtub, a warm shower or a foot bath can make a big difference!
Any tips you want to add? Please let me know in the comments.
Hope this can help you, too! And remember, a “normal” period is supposed to come without too much pain, so it might be useful to check up on your hormones if you’re experiencing severe pain (like I might need to).
Big hugs.
